Quick Takes – The Madness Of Rebalancing Society: Worldwide Racial Equity Chief; Women Choosing Not To Work; Freedom For A Knife-Wielding Robber

     The focus this time: America needs more knife-wielding female robbers for equity!

     So many in the Federal government seem hellbent on pushing wokeness and “equity” on the world…

“The State Department will announce a Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice on June 17 in connection with the department’s Equity Action Plan, an email obtained by the Daily Caller reveals.

“The position of Special Representative was first announced by the State Department in its April Equity Action Plan. The position’s holder has not been named, but the Special Representative will have wide-reaching powers, since he or she will be responsible for ‘institutionaliz[ing] an enterprise-wide approach to integrating racial and ethnic equity.’ The email names ‘advancing equity, addressing systemic racism, and strengthening democracy worldwide’ as ‘national security imperatives and core tenets of President Biden’s foreign policy.’

“Although the Special Representative will be responsible for ‘promoting systems of inclusion that mitigate bias, discrimination, and violence’ and ‘fostering more inclusive societies,’ previous U.S. government efforts to promote inclusion and equity have failed. The federal government spent nearly $800 million promoting gender equality in Afghanistan, a project that failed due to ‘traditional gender norms,’ according to the Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction.”

Happy Flag Day, 2022

     Happy Flag Day!

     There are many historical flags associated with the United States, particularly during the War of Independence.

     One such flag, which has seen more recent official use is the “First Naval Jack”.

“According to legend the First Navy Jack Flag, which is sometimes called the Continental Navy Jack, was raised on the first US Navy ships in the fall of 1775. The Congress had just created the Navy and they appointed Commodore Esek Hopkins, a Rhode Island captain, as the first naval Commander-in-Chief. Hopkins issued a set of fleet signals. The attack signal was to be the raising of “the striped Jack and Ensign at their proper places” from his command ship, the USS Alfred.

“The exact design of the flag was not specified, but the traditional belief is that the First Navy Jack Flag consisted of 13 red and white stripes with a stretched out rattlesnake across the center. The words Don’t Tread on Me stretched across the bottom below the snake. It is likely that John Paul Jones would have raised the First Navy Jack Flag on Commodore Hopkins’ flagship since he was the ship’s first 1st Lieutenant.”

          The specifics may have been a confluence of different flags and a misunderstanding.

“In 1778, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin wrote a letter to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sicily, thanking him for allowing entry of revolutionary ships into Sicilian ports. The letter describes the new flag of the colonies according to the 1777 Flag Resolution, but also describes a flag of ‘South Carolina, a rattlesnake, in the middle of the thirteen stripes.’

“The rattlesnake had long been a symbol in the colonies of resistance and defiance to the Crown. The phrase “Don’t Tread on Me” may have been coined during the American Revolutionary War, a variant perhaps of an earlier image. A snake severed in segments and labelled with the names of the colonies and the legend “Join, or Die”, had first been published in Benjamin Franklin’s Pennsylvania Gazette in 1754, as a political cartoon reflecting on the Albany Congress.”

     Regardless of the origin, this flag has been on multiple occasions the official naval jack of the United States Navy.

Nevada Primary 2022 – End Of Early Voting

     Early voting has always been the bulk of the vote in Nevada, but unlike previous years, this primary has ballots automatically mailed out to everyone, with the option of voting early in person, while before Corona-chan (COVID) absentee ballots had to be requested.   So, how does the 2nd week of early voting this primary compare to previous years?

     To reiterate from the previous post from the 1st week of early voting:

     The state can be divided, as Caeser might say, into three parts: Clark County, which contains Las Vegas and 70% of the states population; Washoe County, which contains Reno and 20% of the states population; and the rural counties, which contain 10% of the states population.

     Clark County leans Democratic and continues to do so. The rural counties are overwhelmingly Republican if not more conservative (hard right 3rd parties can be elected to partisan office in many rural counties).

     This leaves Washoe as the “Bellwether” county which has usually in the past always gone with the statewide winner in every statewide contest in Nevada this century.   However, Washoe, which has a slight Republican plurality or near parity, has been shifting, despite the registration numbers, more reliably to the Democrats.

2022 Numbers for the 2nd Week

     Washoe early voter lead has gone from 20%, 11% and even in 2014, 2016, and 2018 respectively (as well as a near even slight Democratic lead overall in 2020), to a slight near even GOP lead of less than 1% in the 2nd week of the 2022 primary. Washoe continues to underperform compared to previous year and this is consistent with Washoe becoming more friendly to Democrats despite a nominal GOP voter registration edge.

     In contrast, the 2nd week for Republicans in Clark County is better, with a deficit of nine thousand votes or about 6% lead for the Democrats. The Democrats’ lead in 2016 and 2018 in the 2nd week was 10% and 16% respectively, while in 2014 the Republicans actually had a 7% lead in a primary with disastrous turn-out for the Democrats where “None of these candidates” won the plurality of votes for the Democratic nomination for Governor.

     Statewide, the GOP had a slight lead statewide of just under 1%. The total GOP turnout lead is about six thousand votes. The ratio of mail ballots returned to in person voting did increase slightly, as would be expected with ballots arriving shortly before the end of voting. Overall, the GOP is doing better than it did at this point than they did in 2018 or 2020, and perhaps comparable to 2016.

Quick Takes – Woke Education: Race-based Grading; Abolishing Honors Classes For Equity; Banning Whites From Theater

     What easier way it there to achieve “equity” than hiding the fact that the school system is incapable of teaching people of some races as well as others?

“Oak Park and River Forest High School administrators will require teachers next school year to adjust their classroom grading scales to account for the skin color or ethnicity of its students.

“School board members discussed the plan called ‘Transformative Education Professional Development & Grading’ at a meeting on May 26, presented by Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning Laurie Fiorenza.

“In an effort to equalize test scores among racial groups, OPRF will order its teachers to exclude from their grading assessments variables it says disproportionally hurt the grades of black students. They can no longer be docked for missing class, misbehaving in school or failing to turn in their assignments, according to the plan.

“‘Traditional grading practices perpetuate inequities and intensify the opportunity gap,’ reads a slide in the PowerPoint deck outlining its rationale and goals.

“…

“Advocates for so-called ‘equity based’ grading practices, which seek to raise the grade point averages of black students and lower scores of higher-achieving Asian, white and Hispanic ones, say new grading criteria are necessary to further school districts’ mission of DEIJ, or ‘Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice.’

“‘By training teachers to remove the non-academic factors from their grading practices and recognize when personal biases manifest, districts can proactively signal a clear commitment toward DEIJ,’ said Margaret Sullivan, associate director at the Education Advisory Board, which sells consulting services to colleges and universities.

“Sullivan calls grading based on traditional classroom testing and homework performance ‘outdated practices’ and foster ‘unconscious biases.’”

Nevada Primary Early Voting 2022 (First Week)

     In many states, early voting can be indicative of performance in a general election. In Nevada, however, its a bit more complicated.   The short answer as to why is that registration numbers usually tighten up through a statewide primary, and then the Democrats usually end up expanding their registration lead through the Summer and Fall, in large part due to the Culinary Union and the Reid machine.   The one big exception to this was in 2014 where the Democrat’s ended up collapsing in the November election in a way not seen in nearly a century. So, with the Democrats nationally doing poorly, the elections of November 2021 showing a double digit shift from Biden’s 2020 vote, and most importantly the Reid machine suffering not only from the Democratic Socialists of America taking control of much of the Democratic party in Nevada but also from the death of Harry Reid himself, what might we gleam from early voting numbers in Nevada so far?

In California, Bees Identify As Fish

     If men can legally be women, then why can’t a bee legally be a fish? A California appeals court rules that yes, yes bees can be fish.

“A California appeals court has ruled that bees are ‘fish’ for purposes of the state’s endangered species act. While “commonly understood” that a fish ‘lives in aquatic environments,’ ‘terrestrial invertebrate[s],’ including bumble bees, qualify legally.”
