The Environmental Movement Is A Cult

It has been clear for a long while now that modern environmentalism is a cult. Now, some are outright calling for Earth Day to be a religious holiday.

“So, what would an earth-reverent belief system look like with Earth Day at its center?

“To begin with, let’s take a look at what established religions get right and where we might take a cue. Perhaps the first step might be, um, unearthing the nature-centered origins of our existing religious holidays. Most of us know in the back of our minds that Christmas and Hanukkah fall around the time of the winter solstice; that Easter and Passover are celebrated in tandem with the arrival of spring; that Sukkot and Diwali mark harvest and summer’s last warmth, and Eid follows the path of the moon. These holidays have origins in gratitude. Gratitude for the sun returning. Gratitude for the harvest that could avert the starvation winter might bring. Thanks for when it did avert it. We could conceivably reframe these holidays as days of thanks for what the natural world gives and reminders that our responsibility for what remains is an ongoing covenant.

“Next, we might look at what religions do to help us form community and mark life’s important benchmarks: birth, maturity, marriage, and death. What if we were to come to celebrate these benchmarks for what they are biologically? Birth, that ecstatic co-joining of atoms and molecules resulting in sentience might prompt a ritual of truthfully and factually recounting how inanimate becomes animate. Instead of (or in addition to) bar/bat mitzvahs and confirmations, would it be too much to expect our children to go beyond the average daily 20 minutes most American children spend outdoors, and commit to memory the names and descriptions of local plants and animals, or learn the considerations involved in correctly planting a tree? The covenant of marriage might be an opportunity to remind young couples to consider the burden children place upon the planet and to make vows of sustainable patterns of behavior going forward. Death, finally, might be recognized for what it is—a returning of atoms and molecules to the cycle. In the cycle of life, the coming apart is as miraculous a process as the joining. We still don’t really know how nothing became something and formed a universe in which random pulses of energy and matter coalesced into beings writing op eds. In short, there’s plenty of mystery to go around.

“Lastly, we might just need a book. The Jewish Torah wraps around the year nicely from one Simchat Torah to the next, when we complete the annual reading of the story and start over again all in the same service, creating the feeling of a hermetic year. What if a book like that existed for the Earth? What if it were replete with hymns to this world of the living? What if it contained the stories of the prophets of natural earth knowledge—Darwin and Carson, Galileo and Humboldt? What if we came to mark those discoveries as the gradual opening of consciousness to the laws of nature. What if our Bible of the Natural World reenforced that a multiplicity of processes and phenomena still remain to be discovered? What if we used that book not to scold our children into following commandments but rather to light a path forward that encouraged discovery and reverence, and gratitude for the relationships that are this planetary spaceship’s life-support?

“Are we proposing a whole new religion? We’re not quite sure. Maybe an old one. […]

“In short, we must make nature central to our belief system with Earth Day or any number of earth-focused ceremonial days serving as regular reminders of what we owe our home planet.”

Humans tend to be religious creatures by nature. In order to create a new world order, the current religions must be supplanted with one focused on the here and now where salvation can be found by obeying the dictates of the eco-priests, self-denial of possessions, and taking the bugs as if they were communion wafers.

Victims of Communism Day, 2023

Today is Victims of Communism Day. It is also “May Day,” where “useful idiots” march and demonstrate in free countries, while those who have to actually live under Communism are made to march lest they face dire consequences.

A Victims of Communism Museum is operating in the former Soviet occupied territory that is Estonia.

“The International Museum for The Victims of Communism in Tallinn is the first global institution to be developed and built with a focus on examining the international crimes of communism through objective, fact-based research.

“The International Museum for the Victims of Communism and Research Centre of Communist Crimes is to be established in former Patarei prison (Tallinn, the capital of Estonia), led by the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory with the support of the Government of Estonia and leading remembrance institutions in Europe and beyond.”

Firing Line Friday: Corporal Punishment

In the hopes of encouraging a more civil, and illuminating, discourse, here is another episode of William F. Buckley, Jr.’s “Firing Line”.

Even those who do not believe in corporal punishment believe that there are some who need to be at least metaphorically spanked. With chaos returning to many public schools under “restorative justice”, let us look back half a century ago when a very different method of correcting bad behavior in schools with William F. Buckley, Jr. discussing the question of corporal punishment with Timothy Hands, Victor O’Dwyer, Kenton Sparks, Peter Newell, C. C. Kuper, and Robert Edwards.

Quick Takes – Leviathan And The Hidden Transgendering Of Children: The Navy; The Mother In Maine; Bullying The Parent

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: All Your Child Are Belong To Trans

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

Pictured: “Gender Affirming Care”.

Is twelve the new eighteen? When it comes to puberty blockers, STDs, and mutilating one’s body, the Navy certainly thinks so!

“[A] Navy Nurse Practitioner in Bahrain giving a presentation to military parents regarding pediatric healthcare policies. The audience was clearly shocked to learn that military parents of children aged 12 or older could not access their children’s medical records online. And children as young as 15 or 16 can make medical appointments for specific issues without parental notification. Those ‘issues’ are, of course, gender identity, pregnancy, STDs, and mental health.”

The Left used be paranoid about the military “getting” their children through propaganda and brainwashing. Oh the glove is on the other foot now…

Home Loan Equity: …To Each According To Their Low Credit Rating

Recently, California moved to charge the well off and even the middle class to subsidize the electricity rates for the poor. Now, the Biden Administration is going to do the same for Home Loans.

“Once again, the administration is prepared to ‘subsidize the losers’ mortgages,’ so to speak, and not in any effort to save the economy or help Americans avoid destitution. The Biden administration’s only goal is to purchase the loyalty of prospective homebuyers who are locked out of the property market by high real-estate prices and rising interest rates — rising interest rates necessitated, in part, by the administration’s reckless spending. And Americans who did everything right are going to suffer, perversely enough, because they did everything right.

“The administration is set to enforce a new rule that will compel potential homebuyers who spent their lives paying their bills on time and building good credit scores to pay more for their mortgages. Why? To subsidize the loans assumed by higher-risk borrowers. Beginning May 1, prospective homeowners with a credit rating of 680 or more ‘will pay, for example, about $40 per month more on a home loan of $400,000,’ the Washington Times reported this week. ‘Homebuyers who make down payments of 15% to 20% will get socked with the largest fees.’

“…

“It’s difficult to understate the perverse incentives this act of bribery will encourage. You’ve spent your adult life borrowing responsibly and paying your bills on time. You’ve saved for years to acquire enough money for a down payment on a home that approaches the rate at which you can avoid a Federal Housing Administration–subsidized loan and the premium it imposes on your mortgage insurance. For all your diligence and hard work, the Biden administration will now punish you only so that consumers who were not similarly conscientious can have access to better mortgage rates and lower down payments. Knowing that, why on Earth would you devote yourself to an unrewarding enterprise like thrift when someone, somewhere will foot your bill regardless?”

The Left believes those who are well off only got their because they were privileged by systems of oppression, and thus must be punished in order to achieve “equity”… not “equity” as it owning your home and being above water on your loan, but the “equity” that requires inequality of treatment and of results.

It’s the “equity” argument to lift those at the bottom at the expense of those at the top, which will inevitably fail.

The Memory Hole Comes For Jeeves And Wooster

So-called “sensitivity” readers have rewritten various authors from Agatha Christie, Roald Dahl, Ian Fleming, R.L. Stine, and even myriad fairy tales! Now, they are “modernizing” P.G. Wodehouse’s “Jeeves and Wooster” stories to they don’t offend modern snowflakes.

“Jeeves and Wooster books have been rewritten to remove prose by PG Wodehouse deemed “unacceptable” by publishers, the Telegraph can reveal.

“Original passages in the comic novels have been purged or reworked for new editions issued by Penguin Random House.

“Trigger warnings have also been added to revised editions telling would-be Wodehouse readers that his themes and characters may be ‘outdated’.

“One warning states that the writer’s prose has been altered because it was judged to be ‘unacceptable’ by Penguin, a publishing house which enlists the services of sensitivity readers.

“The disclaimer printed on the opening pages of the 2023 reissue of Thank you, Jeeves states:   ‘Please be aware that this book was published in the 1930s and contains language, themes and characterisations which you may find outdated.

“‘In the present edition we have sought to edit, minimally, words that we regard as unacceptable to present-day readers.’”

“Jeeves, what is a ‘cis-het’ and why does that make me an ‘oppressor’.”

Leviathan Is Kidnapping Children In Order To Mutilate Them

Four years ago I warned that Leviathan (i.e. the government) is coming to transgender your children. Now, two states—Washington and California—are in the process of authorizing the government to effectively kidnap your child in order to “transition” them with the euphemistic “gender affirming care” (i.e. sterilization and bodily mutilation).

Pictured: “Gender Affirming Care” Providers in Washington and California.

Washington state requires that youth shelters to report a child’s whereabouts to the parents or legal guardians unless there is reason to believe that the child will be abused or neglected… but not the shelters may refuse to contact the parent if the child is being transitioned… even if there is no reasonable fear of abuse or neglect. SB 5599 reads, in part:

(b) “Promptly report” means to report within eight hours after the person has knowledge that the minor is away from a lawfully prescribed residence or home without parental permission.

(c) “Compelling reasons” include, but are not limited to

(i) Circumstances that indicate that notifying the parent or legal guardian will subject the minor to abuse or neglect as defined in RCW 26.44.020; or

(ii) When a minor is seeking or receiving protected health care services.

(d) “Protected health care services” means gender affirming treatment as defined in RCW 74.09.675 and reproductive health care services as defined in RCW 74.09.875.10

The child may even be placed in a host home where they can be groomed in private.

(A) “Host home” means a private home that volunteers to 1host youth in need of temporary placement that is associated with a host home program.

(B) “Host home program” is a program that provides support to individual host homes and meets the requirements of (o)(i) of this subsection.

(C) “Compelling reason” means the youth is in the host home or seeking placement in a host home while seeking or receiving protected health care services.

(D) “Protected health care services” means gender affirming 10treatment as defined in RCW 74.09.675

Not to be outdone, the state of California is removing limits as well. Currently a child age 12 or over can only consent without parental permission to “mental health treatment or counseling on an outpatient basis, or to residential shelter services” if “The minor (A) would present a danger of serious physical or mental harm to self or to others without the mental health treatment or counseling or residential shelter services, or (B) is the alleged victim of incest or child abuse.” California AB 665 would remove that requirement and further allow the groomed child to effectively veto parental involvement.

The California bill is broader than Washington’s because it isn’t just limited to “gender affirming care”, but allows this to happen for whatever reason the state or child deems appropriate without parents even being notified.

Right To Work In North Carolina

Michigan reversed it’s Right to Work law recently. But North Carolina is poised to reverse this on a Constitutional level with H614.

Article I of the North Carolina Constitution is amended by adding a new section to read:

“Sec. 39. Right to work.

(1) The right to live includes the right to work. The exercise of the right to work must be protected and maintained free from undue restraints and coercion. It is hereby declared to be the public policy of North Carolina that the right of persons to work shall not be denied or abridged on account of membership or nonmembership, or payment or non-payment, in a labor organization.

(2) No person shall be required by an employer to become or remain a member of a labor organization as a condition of employment or continuation of employment with the employer.

(3) No person shall be required by an employer to abstain or refrain from membership in any labor organization as a condition of employment or continued employment.

(4) No employer shall require any person, as a condition of employment or continued employment, to pay to a labor organization any dues, fees, or other charges of any kind.

(5) This section does not apply to any lawful contract in force on the effective date but shall apply in all respects to contracts entered into thereafter and to any renewal or extension of any existing contract.

(6) The term “labor organization” as used in this section means any trade union, labor union, or other labor association.”

As much as we can celebrate the expansion of the Right to Work, we must be vigilant against its contraction.
