Firing Line Friday: Democratic Culture

In the hopes of encouraging a more civil, and illuminating, discourse, here is another episode of William F. Buckley, Jr.’s “Firing Line”.

The question of Democracy being a political method or beyond that to cultural and social phenomena has been a core question raised for some time now. Let us look upon this over-a-quarter-of-a-century ago discussion over whether we are, or ought to be, a “democratic culture”.

     Until next Friday.

Quick Takes – Transgender Tyranny: Manipulating Victims; Coping With Victimhood; Transgender Guidelines From Shadow Organizations

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: They’re coming for your young.

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

One of the tropes of transgender children is that they somehow know, beyond any possible doubt, that they need to be put on puberty blockers, injected with hormones, and be surgically mutilated… until they realize that they’ve been manipulated.

“When Marcus Fitz started ejaculating blood it finally occurred to him that just maybe the medical professionals he trusted had been misleading him.

“For several years, he said, the doctors he saw enticed him with gender transition surgery and led him to believe that being castrated was a beneficial option that would improve his overall health and well-being.

“Fitz, 41, is originally from the Midwest and now resides in California. He is among the rising number of people known as ‘detransitioners,’ having identified as transgender for over a decade. Fitz lived a “mostly stealth” life and frequently lied to coworkers, neighbors and new friends about his biological sex.

“Now suffering from a host of medical complications as a result of years of hormone treatment, including phantom pain in his groin and bouts of severe depression, he is five years into his detransition journey and is reintegrating with his anatomically male body.”

Double Standard For Bodily Autonomy

Adults, ages 18—20, are not considered mature enough to control their bodies when it comes to tobacco or alcohol, or to defend the same via firearms. The argument goes that even though we trust these pseudo-adults with the right to vote, their their brains are “still developing” and a beer or fine cigar would irreparably affect their life, which they are not mature enough to understand.

In contrast, toddlers are now declared to have perfectly developed brains capable to intrinsically knowing their “gender identity” and to consent to hormone blockers, other drugs, and even permanently alter their genitalia. Yet this hypocritical double standard only underscores that beneath this double standard is a single standard that those pushing both these contradictory views hold: Denormalize, dissuade, make difficult, restrict, and even outright ban if possible things they don’t like (or at least pretend to) while normalizing, encouraging, making easy, subsidize, and even mandate the things that they do like. And there is no better target than an impressionable child.

But where is the pushback against not only allowing, but encouraging and shielding from critical voices a child who is tricked into declaring themselves transgender? Oh, there are measures that have been introduced, but it shows just how much society has been fundamentally transformed with the fundamental precepts reconfigured, if not outright replaced, to make transgenderism a default position, when not even a state like North Dakota could pass a bill to stop these surgeries and “treatments” to little kids without parental permission.

“Legislation aimed at stopping South Dakota physicians from providing puberty blockers and gender confirmation surgery to transgender children under 16 failed to get enough support Monday in a Senate committee.

“A Republican-dominated Senate committee voted 5-2 to kill the proposal, likely ensuring the issue won’t be considered by the Legislature again this year.

“Proponents already had amended the bill to get rid of criminal charges for doctors who provide gender confirmation treatments, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery. But it would have allowed children to sue if they later regretted the treatments.”

All The Cops Are Criminals, All The Sinners Saints

For some time now the value of citizenship, and the pride that goes therewith, has been increasingly diminished, with the push for noncitizen voting, non-citizen lawyers, and non-citizen juries. But eliminating the difference between citizens and non-citizens isn’t the goal; elevating non-citizens above citizens is.

For example, the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, will not arrest illegal immigrants who drive without a license, while continuing to punish both citizens and legal immigrants for doing the same.

Nothing says “Post-Apartheid” like a pregnant woman being hacked to death

“A pregnant young woman was hacked to death in her bed Tuesday during a family break at a luxury South African vacation resort.

“Karen Turner, 31, who was three months pregnant, was sleeping with her husband, Matthew, 33, and their toddler son when they were attacked at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

“Matthew was stabbed repeatedly as he lay beside his wife at the Hluleka Nature Reserve in the Eastern Cape province of the country.

“Two men armed with knives sneaked into their self-contained lodge overlooking the beach.

“Karen, a primary school teacher from Underberg, South Africa, died almost instantly, while Matthew managed to fight back and survived after being flown to Pietermaritzburg, where he underwent surgery, according to police.

“Karen’s unborn child was also killed in the frenzied attack. Her 23-month-old son, Hayden, survived and was uninjured.

“It is unclear what the motive was for the horrific murder.”

All The News That’s Fit For Justin Trudeau

We are often told that the lack of a 1st Amendment countries doesn’t endanger “freedom of speech” or “freedom of the press” in democratic nations because the “will of the people” would only ban “hate speech” and “fake news”, and how could anyone defend the people dismissing such ickyness?

Canada, under Justin Trudeau, is now poised to license and regulate all news reporting websites of any kind to make sure that they don’t disseminate what the government considers to be “fake news”, so that news websites will be “free” to tell the government approved truth.
