Well, D’Souza started out wiping the floor with the Kid Liar. But starting halfway through, he conceded way too much.

I wish people would get over the LIE that there were no “WMD.” In the first place, yes there were, as has been established in fact, although they may not have had working nuclear missiles or bombs.

In the second place, “WMD” was only ONE of 23 reasons Pres. Bush gave for the action in the first place. I watched the news shows almost nonstop for 3 days from the time the President announced that we were going in and made the 23-reasons-why speech. The Talking Heads all agreed he had good points and there wasn’t a lot of argument. It was over the course of the next 48 hours that “Saddam’s WMD” became THE reason (per the Talking Heads). I’ve always wondered if they settled on that as policy, and if so who decided it; or whether it was more a matter of human nature, which tends to go for the simplest and most dramatic possibility among the choices on offer.

I wonder who would be a really good debater, who could show up the little creep for what he is. I was proud of Mr. D’Souza for jumping on the “90% of American Indians murdered” lie. I don’t know if Randy Barnett could take him on or not. I also wonder about Randy Herrst (in an alternate universe, I realize). I wish there were a video or a tape somewhere of one of his debates.

If anybody cares, there was a lot of discussion of whether the Raj was good in the long run and/or whether the Brits were horrendous savages who had no right to make a Colony of India on Sean Gabb’s Libertarian Alliance weblog, a couple of years ago I think. The issue was very well aired. Sorry I don’t have any of the links, but the host site is http://libertarianalliance.wordpress.com/ .

Thanks for posting, Daniel. I’m too shell-shocked to say anything meaningful.

Update: See “Sean Gabb in Defence of the British Empire” at http://libertarianalliance.wordpress.com/2010/08/03/sean-gabb-in-defence-of-the-british-empire/ for Dr. Gabb’s posting and the lengthy discussion that follows it. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this hashed over more than once at the L.A., so it might be worth looking at some of the other postings result from a search of the site on the term “British Raj”:

Hi, Daniel, your SpamBot thinks I’m talking too much again or something. It may be right. :>)

If you are posting from an IP address that hasn’t been previously approved, or has multiple links, it’ll go to “pending moderation” before being posted.

But then it would be doing consistently, which it clearly isn’t. Besides, it’s not as if I haven’t been commenting here off and on since you started up.

I suspect that in this case it’s because of the number of links in the message. Maybe in your case it only takes two. This is WordPress, right? At Samizdata, the mods set WordPress to accept three links (regardless of the URL’s) in a single comment before the Spambot decides to mark it as “possible spam.” In their case, they decided on three.

I can’t remember if I had two links the other day, but the Spambot probably also automatically looks askance at certain words or phrases. Maybe I tripped over one of those. I mean, of course you could be right, but then I’d think it would happen consistently.

    Thanks,

    –J.

Oh! “Has multiple links.” I didn’t interpret that as meaning what I meant. But maybe we’re in agreement about that?

WordPress can be wonky. It’ll delete any post I make if it includes a certain word. Your last two comments came in fine, to it’s probably due to you posting a comment with much linkage.
