{"id":7163,"date":"2014-11-06T03:39:51","date_gmt":"2014-11-06T10:39:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/politicalhat.com\/?p=7163"},"modified":"2014-11-06T14:02:02","modified_gmt":"2014-11-06T21:02:02","slug":"election-2014-winners-and-losers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/2014\/11\/06\/election-2014-winners-and-losers\/","title":{"rendered":"Election 2014 &#8211; Winners and Losers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Now that the election is (mostly) over, let&#8217;s take a gander on who the big winners and loser were.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/winner-loser.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"winner loser\" width=\"281\" height=\"264\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7164\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><strong>Winners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/04854XqcfCY\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Aside from the Republican candidates elected, there were some big winners coming out of election night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Catherine Cortez Masto<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nevada&#8217;s termed out Democrat Attorney General decided not to run for any office this year.  That was a wise decision.  She has avoided being associated with a humiliating less.  As WOPR said: &#8220;The only way to win is not to play.&#8221;  She is now the <i>de facto<\/i> heir to Harry Reid in Nevada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Brian Sandoval<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The Governor not only secured his own re-election, but also the election of a Republican majority in both legislative seats and a clean sweep of statewide partisan races.\u00a0 The Democrats have dominated for the past decade due to Harry Reid&#8217;s political machine, but with Reid busy trying, and failing, to save the U.S. Senate for the Democrats, the Democrats vulnerability became manifest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Engage Nevada<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The state Republican Party has been, at best, coolly neutral towards Gov. Sandoval.\u00a0 Since the state party, which has been at best ineffectual, was not going to be any help, Sandoval and his allies had to go around the party and rely instead on independent groups.\u00a0 One of these was Engage Nevada, who stepped in when the empty suit of a state party couldn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dave McKeon<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The Clark County Republican Central Committee chairman was elected with the promise to get Republicans elected.\u00a0 While the GOP in Clark County has been racked with infighting, Republicans nonetheless picked up twelve legislative seats and secured pluralities for five of the six statewide Republican candidates in a county where Democrats have a voter registration lead of over one hundred thousand.\u00a0 While McKeon did not single handedly make this happen, he certainly kept his word of focusing on electing Republicans to office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">AoSHQ Decision Desk<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A rag-tag group of volunteers were able to <a href=\"http:\/\/dd.aoshq.com\" target=\"_blank\">outcall<\/a> many of the professionals election calls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ballotpedia<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;One of the best resources for elections out there. Ballotpedia became the one stop shop for election information and summarization of election night results.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Losers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XSV-VtJfwRw\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">#WarOnWomen<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sandra Fluke lost her race for state Senate in California.\u00a0 Democrat Nevada Lt. Governor candidate Lucy Flores, whose only qualifications were gang banging and having an abortion, lost here race by double digits.\u00a0 Wendy &#8220;Abortion Barbie&#8221; Davis was crushed in Texas, losing even the women&#8217;s vote in her race for Texas Governor.\u00a0 Mark Udall became such a parody of the #WarOnWomen meme that he became known as &#8220;Mark Uterus.&#8221;\u00a0 The #WarOnWomen meme has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/article\/2555814\/\" target=\"_blank\">jumped the shark<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Nevada Republican Party<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Republicans won big in Nevada.\u00a0 But most surprisingly they did so despite the Nevada Republican Party.\u00a0 It has become a battle ground for a soap box upon which ideologies wish to stand and rant at themselves, while everyone else ignores them.\u00a0 Elections?\u00a0 At best a secondary thought to them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dave McKeon<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Yes, he is both a winner and a loser.\u00a0 While Republicans picked up three state Senate seats and nine Assembly seats in Clark County, they lost two County Commission districts where they had early voter leads as well as all countywide partisan executive offices&#8230; some of which they didn&#8217;t even field a candidate.\u00a0 Many of these races would have been winnable if the Republicans had fielded decent candidates and given them their full support.\u00a0 &#8220;If.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MSNBC<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The meltdown was <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2014\/11\/05\/watch-msnbcs-panel-melt-down-scream-at-each-other-as-2014-wave-crests\/\" target=\"_blank\">epic and hilarious<\/a>\u2026 for everyone else that is.\u00a0 To summarize their response to the Republican wave:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pjnZO5ZgWE8\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Harry Reid<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Reid has build up a formidable political machine in the past ten years, and the Democrats have been dominant in Nevada, winning most statewide offices and taking majorities in both legislative houses, including a supermajority in the Assembly.\u00a0 However, Reid was too busy trying, and failing, to save his position as Senate Majority Leader.\u00a0 Without Reid, the Democrats had nothing.\u00a0 They were too reliant on Reid and suffered for it.\u00a0 While they will have Reid and his machine during the 2016 election, they may not have Reid after the 2016 election. In no small part, this will be due to Brian Sandoval building a political machine of his own. Reid tried to sideline then state Attorney General Brian Sandoval by having him appointed to a Federal Judgeship.\u00a0 Sandoval resigned in order to defeat Reid&#8217;s son for Nevada Governor.\u00a0 Sandoval, one way or another, is set to vanquish Reid once and for all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Soon-to-be-former Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She lead the Assembly with a majority that was one seat short of a supermajority.\u00a0 Now the Democrats are in the minority.\u00a0 She will not be able to seat ineligible Democrats, like she did in 2013.\u00a0 One of the most powerful Democrats in the state won her own race for the Assembly, but lost everything else.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That&#8217;s that until the next election!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<b>P.S.<\/b> I originally listed Ed Gillespie as a winner.
