\nThere’s no question that Obamacare hurts the prospects of Democratic candidates in 2014. The question is how much — and where? Last week I wrote a blog post comparing President Obama’s Gallup job approval numbers for calendar year 2013 in all 50 states and the District of Columbia with Obama’s 2012 percentage of the popular vote there (which tracked closely his November 2012 job approval). I found the biggest declines in almost all the 2012 target states, most of which have 2014 Senate races which at the beginning of the cycle did not appear to be competitive but which appear so now in recent polling.<\/p>\n
\nA moderate Republican city councilman has been elected mayor of San Diego in a special election to fill the unexpired term of Bob Filner, who resigned amid a torrent of sexual harassment allegations.<\/p>\n
\nGiven his prolific fundraising (along with beneficial name-confusion with the popular Republican mayor of Anchorage), it\u2019s not a stretch to suppose that of the Republicans in the primary election for Senate, it\u2019s Alaska\u2019s former Natural Resources Commissioner, Dan Sullivan, who keeps Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, up at night. <\/p>\n
\nSenate Democrats facing tough elections this year want the Internal Revenue Service to play a more aggressive role in regulating outside groups expected to spend millions of dollars on their races.<\/p>\n<\/a>Obama Scandals<\/h1>\n

\nLast week, Peter Wehner wrote a piece in Commentary magazine laying out a collection of data regarding recent elections and demographic trends. He was mostly content to let the data speak for themselves, save for a codicil to the piece arguing that something had to change: \u201cRepublican problems are not superficial, transient, or cyclical. The trends speak for themselves. The GOP therefore needs to articulate a governing vision and develop a governing agenda that can reach groups that have not traditionally been supportive of it.\u201d His ultimate takeaway is that the GOP needs to substantially revise its platform, and make a move similar to that made by the New Democrats in 1992.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBeginning\u201d?
\nThere\u2019s nothing here that you haven\u2019t heard before if you watched him testify before Congress in December but it\u2019s still worth watching for two reasons. I\u2019m tempted to say that it was O\u2019s latest unlawful delay to ObamaCare\u2019s employer mandate that soured Turley\u2019s mood, but I don\u2019t think that\u2019s it. I think it was the State of the Union, where Obama embraced bypassing Congress as formal policy. Look out for the phrase \u201cborders on authoritarianism.\u201d<\/p>\n

They are forcing businesses to either shut their doors or provide goods and services to honor commitments that violate religious beliefs. They equate doing so to the Civl Rights struggle.
