{"id":3051,"date":"2013-08-27T13:45:04","date_gmt":"2013-08-27T20:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/politicalhat.com\/?p=3051"},"modified":"2013-08-27T13:45:04","modified_gmt":"2013-08-27T20:45:04","slug":"progressives-thy-name-is-intolerance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/2013\/08\/27\/progressives-thy-name-is-intolerance\/","title":{"rendered":"Progressives, Thy Name is Intolerance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Is there any greater lie than that of the Progressive Left&#8217;s belief in <em>tolerance<\/em>?\u00a0 Those who <a title=\"It Was NEVER About Tolerance\u2026\" href=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/2013\/08\/06\/it-was-never-about-tolerance%e2%80%a6\/\" target=\"_blank\">dare to disagree<\/a>, or even <a title=\"When Affirmation is Mandatory, And Silence is Oppression\" href=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/2013\/06\/03\/when-affirmation-is-mandatory-and-silence-is-oppression\/\" target=\"_blank\">refuse to affirm<\/a>, the twisted mores of the Progressives, are readily being <a title=\"Children Forced To Support Transvestitism in Massachusetts\" href=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/2013\/03\/07\/children-forced-to-support-transvestitism-in-massachusetts\/\" target=\"_blank\">punished<\/a>, even if they are <em>children<\/em>!\u00a0 Now, however, this treatment of those who dare disagree is becoming formalized to the point where the government will treat dissenters like second class citizens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3052\" title=\"intolerance\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/intolerance.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/intolerance.jpg 420w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/intolerance-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Ah, but isn&#8217;t that just opposing <em>their<\/em> discrimination?\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t that just help create society in which everyone is tolerance, even if by force?\u00a0 The clear answer is NO.\u00a0 The &#8220;tolerance&#8221; that the Progressive Left believes in is the &#8220;tolerance&#8221; of those beliefs that they demand you believe.\u00a0 They are <em>intolerant<\/em> of other points of view.\u00a0 You are &#8220;tolerant&#8221; if, and only if, you blindly agree with them.\u00a0 They are not just being intolerant of &#8220;intolerance,&#8221; but being intolerance of those who do not agree with them.\u00a0 People who do not agree with same-sex marriage or transvestitism can be tolerance, yet they are not tolerated by the Progressive Left!\u00a0 It is they who are a demonstrable paragon of intolerance.\u00a0 This is because Progressivism is inherently <em>false<\/em> and <em>oppressive<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Businesses, private non-profits, and even Individuals <em>will be made to care<\/em>.\u00a0 California is proposing to deny non-profit tax status to those groups who dare to exercise their 1<sup>st<\/sup> Amendment freedom of association in a way that is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.policymic.com\/articles\/34539\/boy-scouts-anti-gay-policy-sparks-california-bill-to-eliminate-bsa-tax-exemption\" target=\"_blank\">contrary to the Progressive ideology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The supporters of this move simply claim that non-discrimination is the law and the non-profits, such as the Boy Scouts, must follow the law.\u00a0 The supporters further go on that they are not <em>forcing<\/em> the Boy Scouts to accede to their demand, but only <em>punished<\/em> for failing to exercise their 1<sup>st<\/sup> Amendment rights in a way that the enlightened elite do not <em>tolerate<\/em>.\u00a0 This is hogwash.\u00a0 Restrictions on non-profit tax status should be on content and association neutral grounds and only apply to those aspects that are <em>bona fide<\/em> elements of whether they are acting for profit or not.\u00a0 It would be as if tax-exempt status was being denied to the NAACP for not allowing card-carrying Klan members to join and fully participate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;If offered as an alternative, that the Boy Scouts had to accept members that were gay, but still allow the Boy Scouts to kick-out or refuse to let in anyone who <em>choose<\/em> to engage in practices or advocated positions contrary to the Boy Scouts beliefs, would the advocates of revoking tax-exempt status agree with that?\u00a0 After all, they are not banning people who are gay, but only those who <em>act<\/em> contrary to the morals that the Boy Scouts hold?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Of course not!<\/em> The Progressive left does not care about tolerating other points of view, but only about <em>forcing <\/em> their view on others. They are even <em>kind<\/em> enough to want to &#8220;rehabilitate&#8221; those sad individuals who dare to think contrary to the new enlightened way of thinking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In Oregon, a couple is being persecuted for refusing to <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.washingtonpost.com\/2013-08-14\/business\/41406042_1_complaint-wedding-cake-bakery\" target=\"_blank\">violate their religious faith<\/a> by making a cake for a lesbian couple.\u00a0 Ah, but the state is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redstate.com\/2013\/08\/20\/oregon-to-rehabilitate-businesses-opposed-to-gay-marriage\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>magnanimous<\/em><\/a>: \u201cThe goal is never to shut down a business. The goal is to rehabilitate,\u201d [state labor commissioner Brad] Avakian said. \u201cFor those who do violate the law, we want them to learn from that experience and have a good, successful business in Oregon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But what about about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/356560\/will-religious-liberty-survive-same-sex-marriage-kathryn-jean-lopez\" target=\"_blank\">religious liberty<\/a>?\u00a0 The Progressives respond that if you <em>choose<\/em> to engage in a business, you surrender that right.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t see it as a violation because you are not compelled to engage in business.\u00a0 In New Mexico, a wedding photographer was told by the New Mexico Supreme Court that she could not deny her services to a same-sex wedding, even though same-sex marriage is not legal in New Mexico!\u00a0 In the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/356546\/winnowing-down-religious-liberty-john-fund\" target=\"_blank\">concurring opinion<\/a>, Justice Richard Bosson declared:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe Huguenins are free to think, to say, to believe, as they wish; they may pray to the God of their choice and follow those commandments in their personal lives wherever they lead. The Constitution protects the Huguenins in that respect and much more. But there is a price, one that we all have to pay somewhere in our civic life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIn the smaller, more focused world of the marketplace, of commerce, of public accommodation, the Huguenins have to channel their conduct, not their beliefs, so as to leave space for other Americans who believe something different. That compromise is part of the glue that holds us together as a nation, the tolerance that lubricates the varied moving parts of us as a people. That sense of respect we owe others, whether or not we believe as they do, illuminates this country, setting it apart from the discord that afflicts much of the rest of the world. In short, I would say to the Huguenins, with the utmost respect: it is the price of citizenship.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;No.\u00a0 The surrender of your fundamental Constitutional rights is not the price of citizenship.\u00a0 The protection of those rights from the government is a prerogative of not just citizenship, but of being a human being with inalienable rights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Incorrect thinking <em>must<\/em> be corrected, and \u201ctolerance\u201d is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redstate.com\/2013\/08\/22\/losing-the-battle-winning\/\" target=\"_blank\">one-way street<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIn the name of tolerance, Mrs. Huguenin can be compelled by state power on pain of punishment to provide her services to Ms. Willock against Mrs. Huguenin\u2019s several thousand year old orthodox religious beliefs, but Ms. Willock is under no obligation to simply tolerate those who disagree with her and find someone who is happy to provide the service.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But what about the Constitutional right to free speech.\u00a0 This isn&#8217;t a case of refusing to provide a service because they couple were of the same sex, but of refusing to engage in <em>artistic<\/em> and <em>expressive<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/dreher\/religious-liberty-artistic-freedom-rollback-in-new-mexico\/?utm_source=feedly\" target=\"_blank\">actions<\/a> that are contrary to their beliefs.\u00a0 Even though it may be an act of commerce, photography is still expressive art.\u00a0 \u201cThere is simply no way not to see photography as an art. The New Mexico court disagreed.\u201d\u00a0 Is there are way to have both anti-discrimination laws <em>and<\/em> protect our 1<sup>st<\/sup> Amendment rights?\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2013\/08\/23\/lawyer-for-new-mexico-photographer-forcing-her-to-work-at-a-gay-wedding-violates-her-right-of-free-expression\/\" target=\"_blank\">There is<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMundane professions have no constitutional exemption from an antidiscrimination law, but a profession that involves a viewpoint \u2014 literally, in the case of photography \u2014 gets First Amendment protection. That&#8217;s not a ruling that&#8217;d satisfy everyone, but it&#8217;d at least vindicate the principle that you can&#8217;t be compelled to adopt another&#8217;s perspective, even if you&#8217;re being compensated for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But the Progressive left would <em>never<\/em> accept this because they are all about <em>compulsion<\/em>.\u00a0 We now live in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/356600\/compelled-law-michael-walsh\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cfree\u201d country<\/a> where \u201ccitizenship now has a \u2018price\u2019 and citizens must now \u2018channel their [constitutionally protected] conduct\u2019 lest they fall afoul of the Majesty of the Law in one of its flights of favoritism. There&#8217;s a word for this. It&#8217;s not \u201cfreedom,\u201d and it isn&#8217;t pretty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But what about those who want to enforce their <em>Progressive<\/em> morality?\u00a0 No one is <em>forcing<\/em> the Boy Scouts to seek tax-exempt status as a charitable organization, but neither is anyone <em>forcing<\/em> homosexual individuals to join the Boy Scouts!\u00a0 No one is forcing florists, cake makers, or photographers to engage in business, but neither is anyone forcing people to go to those businesses!\u00a0 Businesses have a right to <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2013\/08\/23\/reserving-the-right-to-refuse-service\/\">refuse service<\/a>, because the free market is about the free interaction of free individuals.\u00a0 Even so, it is still generally accepted that businesses can be required to not deny services because of what a person <em>is<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But the above examples aren&#8217;t examples of where service was denied because who they were, but on the basis of their voluntary expressive actions.\u00a0 The case of a Washington florist who refused to provide services for a same-sex wedding is a perfect example.\u00a0 The florist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/06\/28\/gay-wedding-flowers-case_n_3516294.html\" target=\"_blank\">happily served the gay couple before<\/a>, but only objected to affirming the moral message that she was adamantly against!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The Progressive left <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/04\/10\/barronelle-stutzman-washington-florist-lawsuit-_n_3052301.html\" target=\"_blank\">insist<\/a> that if \u201ca business provides a product or service to opposite-sex couples for their weddings, then it must provide same-sex couples the same product or service.\u201d But there is a difference between a marriage ceremonies and serving a person the same exact meal you would to everyone else at a lunch counter is not comparable. A sandwich is a sandwich, and exactly the same; wedding ceremonies are expressive acts that innately vary.\u00a0 If serving a sandwich is morally acceptable to one person, then it ought to be morally acceptable to sell it to another person, generally speaking; but celebrating and affirming one wedding is not morally equivalent to celebrating and affirming another, even between traditional marriages between husband and wife!\u00a0 You can not refuse to sell a sandwich to a person because of their race, but someone can not demand that you make a sandwich you don&#8217;t want to make.\u00a0 A Halal or Kosher deli can not be forced to cater a dinner with ham, and a religious person should not be forced to violate their faith because of someone else&#8217;s choice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;It goes far beyond the actions of businesses, but of how the government treats its own citizens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The City of San Antonio wants to ban anyone who shows &#8220;bias&#8221; from <a href=\"http:\/\/nationalreview.com\/article\/355832\/bias-against-ssm-katrina-trinko\" target=\"_blank\">serving or contracting<\/a> with the city.\u00a0 While purportedly this would mean that any one who serves or contracts with the city from giving unequal treatment to people based on sexual orientation and such, this proposed ban would itself discriminate against those who oppose same-sex marriage or who dare declare that a man in a dress is still a man.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In the new &#8220;tolerant&#8221; military, those who dare not affirm the proffered &#8220;enlightened&#8221; opinion is are <a href=\"http:\/\/townhall.com\/columnists\/toddstarnes\/2013\/08\/15\/air-force-veteran-relieved-of-duties-for-disagreeing-with-homosexuality-n1665403\/page\/full\" target=\"_blank\">punished<\/a> for daring to oppose the new order.\u00a0 It is almost like the Obama administration only trusts those who blindly parrot <em>Progressive<\/em> views with guns\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;These have the same problem as with the Boy Scouts.\u00a0 People are required to suspend their Constitutional rights in order to engage in business or even interact with the government on an equal footing as everyone else.\u00a0 That the rule applies to everyone is irrelevant, since some people will required to violate their consciousness while other are not.\u00a0 Government, unlike private people (or their businesses) <em>must<\/em> provide access, benefits, and services regardless of what the people think or advocate, for the government <em>must<\/em> be neutral in order to provide equal protection under the law and equal treatment by the law.\u00a0 If the factor is not relevant to the direct access, benefit, or services provided, then the factor must be irrelevant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;It is the ultimate double standard, where one isn&#8217;t allowed to advance traditional morality because <em>some<\/em> people hold that position for a religious reason, even if an atheist with secular arguments also holds that position, but where the state can force people to act contrary to their religious faith because they are just forcing people to <em>act<\/em> or <em>profess <\/em>positions contrary to their faith, but not actually <em>believe<\/em> contrary to that faith!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But that&#8217;s the law, the rabid leftist might say.\u00a0 If they don&#8217;t want to be forced to do that, they can just quit!\u00a0 So, according to the left, &#8220;tolerance&#8221; means forcing people to act and say what <em>the Progressives<\/em> want them to think!\u00a0 Force the norm on the population and the belief amongst the masses will follow.\u00a0 After all, they can still <em>think<\/em> what they want just as long as they keep it entirely to themselves and don&#8217;t <em>act<\/em> contrary to the will of the Progressives unless it is in the dark\u2026 <strong><em>in the closet<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;It is the <em>Progressive Left<\/em> that needs a lesson about <em>Intolerance<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eo66cJqEl4A\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>the Progressives<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Is there any greater lie than that of the Progressive Left&#8217;s belief in tolerance?\u00a0 Those who dare to disagree, or even refuse to affirm, the twisted mores of the Progressives, are readily being punished, even if they are children!\u00a0 Now, &hellip;
