Among other recommendations, the report recommends that euthanasia be expanded to include children \u2018mature minors.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRecommendation 19 in the report states:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c<em>\u2018That the Government of Canada establish a requirement that, where appropriate, the parents or guardians of a mature minor be consulted in the course of the assessment process for MAID, but that the will of a minor who is found to have the requisite decision-making capacity ultimately take priority.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis means that parents or guardians may or may not be consulted, in the euthanasia death of a child that is deemed capable of decision-making.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Apparently some in Australia are upset that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parliament.act.gov.au\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0008\/2358116\/VAD-Submission-073-ACT-Human-Rights-Commission.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a human right to be medically executed<\/a> isn\u2019t being extended to kids.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cImprovements to the proposed scheme<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We detail below certain of our earlier recommendations that have not been incorporated into the Bill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c1. Access for Children and Young People under 18: the current scheme is limited to individuals over the age of 18 years old. Human rights principles require due consideration for the rights of children and young people, including their right to access health care without discrimination and their right to have their views taken into account.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt is the Commission\u2019s view that this extends to decisions for a child or young person to voluntarily end their life with dignity in the same circumstances as adults: namely where they have a condition that is advanced, progressive and expected to cause their death, where they are suffering intolerably, where they are acting voluntarily, and where they have demonstrated maturity and capacity to make such a decision.
