A groundbreaking concept is emerging \u2014 bestowing legal personality upon forests, enabling them to act as legal persons in global discourse. . . . This approach can guide us toward a renewed dialogue. Can\u2019t have that, can we?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou can count on environmental extremists to do whatever they can to impede the mining and refining of lithium.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor example, many in the \u2018nature rights\u2019 movement consider the earth to be a living being and seek to protect \u2018Gaia\u2019 from harm. Even nature rightists who don\u2019t accept such neopaganistic mysticism want to grant \u2018rights\u2019 to nature \u2014 including geological features \u2014 to \u2018exist and persist\u2019 to prevent large resource extraction projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTheir goal is to unleash widespread lawfare by granting legal standing to anyone and everyone who believes that a given project is violating nature\u2019s \u2018rights\u2019 and to thwart the effort through litigation. That approach has already shuttered two copper mining projects \u2014 one in Panama and the other in Ecuador \u2014 after those countries adopted nature rights laws.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMeanwhile, the \u2018ecocide\u2019 movement seeks to criminalize large-scale mining and energy extractions \u2014 such as the Alberta tar sands \u2014 as the \u2018fifth crime against peace.\u2019 This kind of huge extraction project would seem to fit squarely into their indictment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In a moment of sanity, Swiss voters decided to enshrine Gaia and their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/news\/swiss-vote-rejects-placing-ecology-at-heart-of-constitution-381dcb78\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Goddess of Law<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSwiss voters on Sunday firmly rejected a referendum proposal put forward by green politicians to enshrine respect for the planet&#8217;s natural resources into the constitution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSome 70 percent of those who cast their ballots voted no to the measure, according to an official preliminary count.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cA summary of the referendum said that natural resources such as water, soil and air were often used in Switzerland and abroad to such an extent &#8220;that they are unable to recover&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018The Environmental Responsibility Initiative requires that economic activities do not consume more resources and release more pollutants than is permitted for the preservation of natural resources,\u2019 it said, setting a 10-year deadline.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe text did not give any details on how the shift would be implemented, such as regulations, bans or incentives, but said that &#8220;due to the short time limit, radical measures are likely to be required&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIn line with earlier predictions of a solid majority against the \u2018no\u2019 vote won in all cantons.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;TTFN.<\/p>\n<p><meta name=\"twitter:card\" align=\"center\" content=\"summary\" \/><meta name=\"twitter:site\" content=\"@PoliticHatBlog\" \/><meta name=\"twitter:creator\" content=\"@ThePoliticalHat\" \/><meta name=\"twitter:title\" content=\"Nature Rights: Forest Rights At The WEF;
