The pristine, snow-capped dormant volcano is the second highest on New Zealand\u2019s North Island at 2,518 meters (8,261 feet) and a popular spot for tourism, hiking and snow sports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe law passed Thursday gives Taranaki Maunga all the rights, powers, duties, responsibilities and liabilities of a person. Its legal personality has a name: Te K\u0101hui Tupua, which the law views as \u2018a living and indivisible whole.\u2019 It includes Taranaki and its surrounding peaks and land, \u2018incorporating all their physical and metaphysical elements.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cA newly created entity will be \u2018the face and voice\u2019 of the mountain, the law says, with four members from local M\u0101ori iwi, or tribes, and four members appointed by the country\u2019s Conservation Minister.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Last November, voters in the City of Everett were asked if they wanted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldnet.com\/news\/everett-initiative-asks-should-the-snohomish-river-have-legal-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">give a river legal rights<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEverett voters will decide next Tuesday if the Snohomish River should have legal rights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf Initiative 24-03 passes, any city resident could take anyone negatively impacting the watershed\u2019s health to court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIndividuals, companies or businesses found responsible for disturbing the watershed would be liable for the damages, and would have to pay City Hall for restoration projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/5AcPL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">how did the voters decide<\/a>?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c57 percent of voters in Everett, Wash., granted rights to a geological feature, specifically, the Snohomish River watershed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Meanwhile, in Colorado, Animal-rights activists sued to give an elephant the right to sue\u2026 as represented by \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/will-colorado-allow-elephants-to-sue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">animal-rights ideologues<\/a>\u201d. So, how did that lawsuit fair in the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/elephants-legal-personhood-colorado-zoo-b72faa585807d3695df2a4a8ec2caa8e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colorado Supreme Court<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;It <a href=\"https:\/\/kdvr.com\/news\/colorado\/an-elephant-is-not-a-person-colorado-supreme-court-denies-appeal-over-zoo-containment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018An elephant is not a person\u2019 and is not afforded the same liberties as a person under the Colorado Constitution, the Colorado Supreme Court decided Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe state\u2019s highest court upheld an El Paso County District Court decision that decided five elephants at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo were not included in state liberty statutes.
