Senate Bill 961 requires every passenger vehicle of the 2030 model year and beyond to &#8220;utilize a brief, one-time, visual and audio signal to alert the driver each time the speed of the vehicle is more than 10 miles per hour over the speed limit.&#8221; Passing the Assembly 42\u201312 and the Senate 26\u20139, the only thing that stands between S.B. 961 becoming law is Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom&#8217;s signature. Once the bill becomes law, violations would not carry mere civil penalties but \u2018would be punishable as a crime.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;There\u2019s more to corporatism than corporations, especially in California where the California Legislature wanted taxpayers to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/10\/07\/new-california-law-forces-taxpayers-to-pay-for-union-members-dues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subsidize the Unions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCalifornia Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, signed a bill [\u2026] forcing California taxpayers to pay up to $400 million of public and private employees\u2019 union dues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis legally questionable, ethically adulterated move is yet another blow against beleaguered Californians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOn its surface, the law, Assembly Bill 185, provides $400 million of taxpayers\u2019 money to a select group of people who purchase a private, optional service. (The so-called tax credit is refundable, or available to people who do not pay state income taxes, which makes it a payment instead of tax credit.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe stated intent \u2018is to help individuals with the cost of being a member of a union.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBut California lawmakers haven\u2019t passed or proposed bills providing hundreds of millions of dollars to help individuals with the cost of becoming members of AAA or their local gym or farm bureau. So, why the special handouts for labor unions alone?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The California Legislature goes so far, <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/volokh\/2024\/10\/02\/judge-blocks-california-law-restricting-materially-deceptive-election-related-deepfakes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">even judges<\/a> there need to keep them in check.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cJudge Blocks California Law Restricting \u2018Materially Deceptive\u2019 Election-Related Deepfakes<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe judge concluded that the law, AB 2839, likely violates the First Amendment, and therefore issued a preliminary injunction blocking it from going into effect.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe court began by concluding that AB 2839 doesn&#8217;t fall within the existing defamation exception to First Amendment protection, and isn&#8217;t subject to any other doctrine that categorically lowers protection for false statements in election campaign\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe court therefore evaluated the statute, as a content-based speech restriction, under strict scrutiny and concluded that it likely failed that test<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAnd the court held that the disclosure requirement for materially deceptive videos that are nonetheless parody or satire was also unconstitutional\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;TTFN.<\/p>\n<p><meta name=\"twitter:card\" content=\"summary_large_image\"><meta name=\"twitter:site\" content=\"@PoliticHatBlog\" \/><meta name=\"twitter:creator\" content=\"@ThePoliticalHat\" \/><meta name=\"twitter:title\" content=\"Madness Of The California Legislature: Speeding Cars Beep; Taxpayer Funder Union Dues; Doubleplusungood Deepfakes\"\/><meta name=\"twitter:description\" content=\"The focus this time: What\u2019s more crazy than a California Governor?
