The fight by twig-worshipping Gaia cultists<\/a> to enshrine \u201crights<\/a>\u201d for \u201cnature<\/a>\u201d, there is pushback<\/a> from saner<\/a> people. \u00a0 However, quite often \u201cnature\u201d is granted \u201crights\u201d by people who do so in order to feel all warm and fuzzy about loving Mother Nature, until they realize<\/a> that when \u201cnature\u201d has rights\u2026 and they don\u2019t.<\/p>\n \u201cTown of Nederland leaders loved their wild watersheds so much they passed a resolution for \u201crights of nature\u201d to protect local rivers, and bolstered that by appointing two \u201cguardians\u201d who could question dams or other threats to clean, flowing water.<\/p>\n \u201cUntil Nederland remembered it might want to build its own dam.<\/p>\n \u201cNow, Nederland\u2019s town board will vote whether to repeal the rights of nature concept for local watersheds because it may be used \u2018in ways that could jeopardize the town\u2019s water security,\u2019 according to a memo written by Mayor Billy Giblin.<\/p>\n \u201cSupporters of rights of nature are now using the semi-official role \u2018as a point of leverage against the town and its neighbors in the community,\u2019 and may no longer \u201cbe a good fit for the town,\u2019 Giblin wrote as part of the board agenda for Tuesday night\u2019s repeal discussion.<\/p>\n \u201cGiblin said in an interview he is an environmentalist seeking the least harmful ways to secure water, but that he and town leaders must also \u2018balance those ideals with the practicality and reality that we must reserve our water rights and store our water for the sake of the present and future welfare and security of our community.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Now this is a local measure, and when the locals figured out it was a bad idea, they has the power to potentially change it.
