     The Physics Department at the University of Chicago invited undergraduate applicants to a \u201cSummer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)\u201d complete with a $6000 stipend. \u00a0 But the announcement made it clear that Asian and White men are not who this program was \u201cparticularly intended<\/a>\u201d for and specifically offers \u201cundergraduates (members of underrepresented minority groups (African-Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans) and women) the opportunity to gain research experience\u201d.<\/p>\n

     This is in violation of the University\u2019s own rule against racial discrimination<\/a>.<\/p>\n

     Apparently the light shined on them by Christopher<\/a> Rufo<\/a>, has gotten them to change the wording\u2026 not to ensure that it is racially neutral, but to obfuscate their intent<\/a> by changing the wording to \u201c[t]he program is open to all and we encourage applications from those underrepresented in physics.\u201d<\/p>\n

     They aren\u2019t sorry for what they did. They are sorry for being caught.<\/p>\n
