They can no longer be docked for missing class, misbehaving in school or failing to turn in their assignments, according to the plan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018Traditional grading practices perpetuate inequities and intensify the opportunity gap,\u2019 reads a slide in the PowerPoint deck outlining its rationale and goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAdvocates for so-called \u2018equity based\u2019 grading practices, which seek to raise the grade point averages of black students and lower scores of higher-achieving Asian, white and Hispanic ones, say new grading criteria are necessary to further school districts&#8217; mission of DEIJ, or \u2018Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018By training teachers to remove the non-academic factors from their grading practices and recognize when personal biases manifest, districts can proactively signal a clear commitment toward DEIJ,\u2019 said Margaret Sullivan, associate director at the Education Advisory Board, which sells consulting services to colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSullivan calls grading based on traditional classroom testing and homework performance \u2018outdated practices\u2019 and foster \u2018unconscious biases.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;If you can\u2019t bring up the grades of those who aren\u2019t doing as well as other to achieve \u201cequity\u201d, then just <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/qppss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">take away the opportunities<\/a> of those who are capable doing well. After all \u201cequity\u201d doesn\u2019t mean things actually get better for anyone.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBroudy is one of many parents who are up in arms after they found out Patrick Henry High School\u2019s principal, Michelle Irwin, has been cutting several honors, advanced and gifted education courses without their knowledge or input.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIrwin cut the courses for equity reasons, according to an email she wrote to parents. She told parents she wanted to move away from \u2018stratifying\u2019 classes and remove the stigma from non-honors courses. She has also cited racial disparities in honors course enrollment \u2014 a problem that is mirrored nationwide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBut parents question whether cutting honors courses is the right solution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe controversy has rattled Patrick Henry, a racially diverse school in the middle-class neighborhood of San Carlos that is also San Diego\u2019s largest high school, with more than 2,500 students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cParents emailed complaints to the principal, San Diego Unified School District leaders, journalists and school board members. They created a Facebook group that now has 300 members to exchange information. Some parents, like Broudy, said they are planning to leave Patrick Henry for a charter or private school, which parents say may cause a \u201cbrain drain\u201d of high-achieving students from the campus.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nothing says \u201cequity\u201d like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/white-students-excluded-from-arizona-state-theatre-performance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">segregation<\/a> and banning people because of their race.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe theatre department at Arizona State University recently hosted a cabaret show that explicitly barred white students from performing in it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018The Color Cabaret\u2019 is \u2018an opportunity for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) students in the School of Music, Dance and Theatre to create performances that speak to their own experience,\u2019 according to a description for the performance held the last weekend in January.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018The cabaret, held Jan. 29 and 30, was made up entirely of students of color, and the songs performed told a story with heart, grace and a cultural flair representing the diverse community at ASU,\u2019 The State Press reported.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018This performance also serves as a fundraiser for the BIPOC student scholarship fund, led by the ASU Music Theatre and Opera Student Organization,\u2019 the description stated. \u2018Together we celebrate and highlight what makes us different.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cStudents directed the show under the direction of ASU Assistant Professor Nathan Myers. It occurred at the university\u2019s Evelyn Smith Music Theatre.
