Whether this is an example of \u201chorseshoe theory\u201d or just an example of two sides to the same coin is an issue for another debate. The question is ought the more sane and rational people gravitate to when it comes to foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19288\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Attack_on_Derna_by_Charles_Waterhouse_tripoli.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Attack_on_Derna_by_Charles_Waterhouse_tripoli.jpg 512w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Attack_on_Derna_by_Charles_Waterhouse_tripoli-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;An intellectually informative debate was held recently, with Senator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/watch-nri-foreign-policy-forum-featuring-rich-lowry-tom-cotton-mike-gallagher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Cotton<\/a> (R-AR) being one of the highlights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u1JCkROXt5E\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sen. Cotton, in particular, laid out a \u201cmanly\u201d foreign policy that is outward looking but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/cotton-urges-gop-to-discard-grand-and-abstract-doctrines-in-favor-of-realistic-foreign-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">firmly grounded<\/a> domestically.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe charge of policy-makers, said Cotton, is to secure \u2018the blessings of liberty\u2019 promised by the Preamble of the Constitution \u2014 namely, \u2018our safety, freedom, and prosperity.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAccording to Cotton, foreign policy is the \u2018realm of prudential judgment and reasoning.\u2019 The Arkansas senator denounced \u2018doctrines\u2019 in his remarks, which he said were inconsistent with any kind of conservative foreign-policy approach.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018Let us discard the search for grand and abstract doctrines,\u2019 said Cotton, who was also sure to note that a prudential approach was not inconsistent with a principled one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPrinciples, asserted Cotton, must be what guide prudential action.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Agree or disagree on the particulars, at least it\u2019s a starting place for discussion within the realm of sensibility.<\/p>\n<p><meta name=\"twitter:card\" content=\"summary_large_image\"><meta name=\"twitter:site\" content=\"@PoliticHatblog\"><meta name=\"twitter:creator\" content=\"@ThePoliticalhat\"><meta name=\"twitter:title\" content=\"A Strong But Grounded Foreign Policy\"><meta name=\"twitter:description\" content=\"It seems that we\u2019ve gone in the past half century in America from the 'they always blame America First' Left who urged America to not meddle in other countries' affairs and to instead tend to troubles (and government spending), at home to the purported Right who blame domestic soyjacks and their international confederates for meddling in other counties' affairs and instead tend to troubles (and government spending) at home.
