     Racial segregation in schools was, in the 20th<\/sup> Century, a societal cancer of both racism and racial inequality under the law that White Supremacists fought for, that was ended by the banner victory of Brown v. Board of Education<\/em>.<\/p>\n

     Racial segregation in schools is, in the 21st<\/sup> Century, a paragon<\/a> of \u201cRacial<\/a> Justice<\/a>\u201d that only a White Supremacist fight against, at least according to supporters of this public school<\/em> created specifically for \u201cBIPOC<\/a>\u201d (i.e.<\/em> \u201cBlack, indigenous, persons of color\u201d) students.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cPortland has been labeled the \u2018whitest big city\u2019 in America. That can make it difficult for some BIPOC (Black, indigenous, people of color) kids to see themselves reflected in their communities and schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why there\u2019s an effort to make a space specifically for BIPOC students where they feel seen, heard and their experiences are reflected in curriculum.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018It’s very hard to learn when you don’t see yourself in the curriculum. You don’t see yourself in educational model,\u201d said Eric Knox, executive director and founder of HOLLA, a nonprofit in Portland that pairs youth of color with mentors of color.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Every spring we match our kids or mentees with mentors [\u2026] and we have more kids wanting to get mentorship than we have mentors,\u2019 Knox said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the beginning, in 2013, Knox said his intention was to open a school for BIPOC students.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

     Note how this us justified by essentially saying that \u201cBlack, indigenous, people of color\u201d have different ways of knowing<\/a> that that they are incapable of understanding, at least without greatly \u201ccolonizing their minds\u201d, what White (and apparently also \u201cWhite-adjacent\u201d races\/ethnicities). Saying that used to be considered racist and offered as proof by White Supremacists; saying that now makes you a woke racial justice warrior.<\/p>\n
