How hard is the push? Reader\u2019s Digest Canada \u2014 no less \u2014 has published a guide to end-of-life planning that pushes euthanasia and doesn\u2019t even mention hospice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe guide advises readers to \u2018pick the right time\u2019 to die, i.e., be euthanized \u2014 euphemistically known as \u2018medical assistance in dying\u2019 (MAID). From \u201cThe Ultimate Guide to End of Life Planning\u201d:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018A scheduled death can allow people to say goodbye in the way they want. According to Helen Long, a MAID is often like a celebration of life\u2014except the guest of honour gets to be there. \u201cA friend of my dad had a classic car, and he and his son went for one last drive around the neighbourhood,\u201d she says. \u201cOnce a person makes a decision, it\u2019s often a very freeing experience for them. It gives them back their control.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe allusion is to \u2018the guest of honour\u2019 is to euthanasia parties, where people attend to say goodbye and watch the patient be killed or \u2014 as happens in the U.S.A. \u2014 take poison pills. In my view, people who attend such gatherings validate suicide and are morally complicit in the death.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Out: Boob jobs in Beverly Hills. In: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/california-bill-to-force-m-d-participation-in-assisted-suicide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homicide<\/a>!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhen activists successfully legalized assisted suicide in California, they persuaded the California Medical Association to shift from opposition to neutrality with the promise that no doctor would be forced to participate. But here\u2019s the thing with assisted suicide: Such promises are made to be broken.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNow that assisted suicide is well-ensconced in California culture, a bill has been filed that would destroy medical conscience for doctors who oppose assisted suicide. From SB 380 [\u2026]:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u00a0\u00a0 (3) If a health care provider is unable or unwilling to carry out a qualified individual\u2019s request under this part and the qualified individual transfers care to a new health care provider or health care facility, the individual\u2019s medical records shall be provided to the individual and, upon the individual\u2019s request, timely transferred with documentation of the date of the individual\u2019s request for a prescription for aid-in-dying drug in the medical record, pursuant to law.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0\u00a0 (4) Failure to provide information about medical aid in dying to an individual who requests it, or failure to refer upon the individual\u2019s request to another health care provider or health care facility that is willing to provide the information, is considered a failure to obtain informed consent for subsequent medical treatments.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0\u00a0 (5) Neither a health care provider nor a health care facility shall engage in false, misleading, or deceptive practices relating to a willingness to qualify an individual or provide a prescription to a qualified individual under this part. Intentionally misleading an individual as to the willingness of a provider or facility to participate under this part constitutes coercion or undue influence.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHere is what that would mean. A physician who refused to prescribe poison to a legally qualified patient \u2014 perhaps because of religious beliefs or wanting to simply follow the Hippocratic Oath \u2014 would be obliged upon the patient\u2019s request to find another doctor he or she knows is willing to prescribe. In other words, finding the participating M.D. would be the doctor\u2019s responsibility, not the patient\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Does too much ukulele music make Hawaiians <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/why-the-hawaii-health-department-wants-looser-assisted-suicide-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crave death<\/a>, or are hard-Left people who run the state homicidal?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOnce facilitated suicide\u2013or in the case of euthanasia, homicide\u2013is firmly ensconsed in public policy, the guidelines go by the wayside and are loosened repeatedly, over time. For recent examples, see Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Washington, and Oregon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe see boosting stories for this process of liberalizing frequently in the popular media, only the vaunted guidelines are now called \u2018obstacles\u2019 or \u2018barriers.\u2019 It\u2019s all such a con.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNow Hawaii\u2019s Department of Health predictably urges a loosening of existing protections. From the Department\u2019s Annual Report:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u00a0\u00a0 The DOH recommends the following changes to the OCOCA.<\/em><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><em> Waiver of any waiting periods if the attending provider and consulting provider agree that patient death is likely prior to the end of the waiting periods.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em> Given access to health care providers is limited, the DOH recommends authorizing advance practice registered nurses to serve as attending providers for patients seeking medical aid in dying.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPlease know that if you support legalizing assisted suicide, you are also endorsing a process that ultimately leads to death on demand \u2014 as it has in Germany. You may want that.
