But that isn\u2019t \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/2021\/03\/03\/so-long-as-the-gap-is-smaller\/\">equitable<\/a>\u201d. To achieve \u201cequity\u201d and make everyone equal than everyone must get a diploma and that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/politics\/2021\/08\/gov-kate-brown-signed-a-law-to-allow-oregon-students-to-graduate-without-proving-they-can-write-or-do-math-she-doesnt-want-to-talk-about-it.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diplomas be made equally valueless<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor the next five years, an Oregon high school diploma will be no guarantee that the student who earned it can read, write or do math at a high school level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGov. Kate Brown had demurred earlier this summer regarding whether she supported the plan passed by the Oregon Legislature to drop the requirement that students demonstrate they have achieved those essential skills. But on July 14, the governor signed Senate Bill 744 into law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCharles Boyle, the governor\u2019s deputy communications director, said the governor\u2019s staff notified legislative staff the same day the governor signed the bill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBoyle said in an emailed statement that suspending the reading, writing and math proficiency requirements while the state develops new graduation standards will benefit \u2018Oregon\u2019s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018Leaders from those communities have advocated time and again for equitable graduation standards, along with expanded learning opportunities and supports,\u2019 Boyle wrote.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Honors programs used to be advanced classes where the best and brightest could go beyond what regular classes taught in order to better realize their own abilities and capacities. Used to. \u00a0 Now an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/university-to-create-equity-based-honors-program-for-students-of-color\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(un) Honors College<\/a>\u201d is being established as San Jose State University.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHigher education honors programs have traditionally been designed to give high-achieving students a chance to push themselves further and deeper academically at the collegiate level, but in today\u2019s age of equity, one university aims to turn the idea on its head.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSan Jose State University is working to launch what has been temporarily dubbed the \u2018(un) Honors College\u2019 as scholars work to design a model that best fits their vision.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe effort aims to attract the \u2018region\u2019s BIPOC communities,\u2019 stated Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Vincent Del Casino when he announced the undertaking last September.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, People of Color.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe large public university nestled in California\u2019s Silicon Valley already offers various traditional honors programs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe new program would not replace them, Del Casino stated, but instead push \u2018past historical conversations about honors education and toward a dialogue about how we create radical, new learning spaces responsive to and inspired by the complex and intersectional diversity of our local communities and our students.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018Maybe what we end up with doesn\u2019t have the word \u201chonors\u201d in it at all.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nothing says \u201cequity\u201d like\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantablackstar.com\/2021\/08\/10\/it-was-just-disbelief-parent-files-complaint-against-atlanta-elementary-school-after-learning-the-principal-segregated-students-based-on-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">racial segregation in schools<\/a>!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAn Atlanta mom filed a federal complaint against her daughter\u2019s Atlanta elementary school after she learned that the school was separating students on the basis of race.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIn the discrimination complaint filed with the U.S. Department of Education\u2019s Office of Civil Rights, parent Kila Posey claims the principal at Mary Lin Elementary School, a K-5 school in the Atlanta Public Schools system, put a segregation policy in place because she thought it was best for all students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPosey, who is vice president of operations for the parent teacher association, according to the school website, first learned of the separation after she contacted Briscoe to request that her daughter be placed in a specific classroom with a certain teacher. Briscoe replied by saying that would not work because the teacher\u2019s classroom wasn\u2019t for Black students, Posey claims.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018She said that\u2019s not one of the Black classes, and I immediately said, \u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d I was confused. I asked for more clarification. I was like, \u201cWe have those in the school?\u201d And she proceeded to say, \u201cYes.
