     The ability to engineer organs that bridge the gap between humans and animals, in this case pigs, opens up a world of possibilities for on demand organ transplants<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cA team of Israeli researchers have developed a hybrid organ \u2013 an organ from a pig with \u201chuman\u201d blood vessels \u2013 that they believe could help alleviate the shortage of transplant organs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been many attempts to implant animal organs in humans but this has largely been unsuccessful, mostly due to acute rejections, explained Dr. Shahar Cohen of Beilinson Hospital, whose team developed the hybrid organ.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe main trigger of an organ rejection is the internal lining of its blood vessels, he said. This coating is the point of contact between the transplanted organ and the recipient\u2019s body.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018We looked for a way to produce an alternative coating that does not cause rejection,\u2019 Cohen told The Jerusalem Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe solution: Cohen\u2019s team removed the coating from the pigs\u2019 blood vessels and replaced it with a more \u2018friendly\u2019 coating to the human immune system that was engineered in the laboratory from human placenta cells, which, as far as is known, do not trigger rejection.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

     This technique could go both ways and close the gap between human and animals to the potential point of successfully engineering kemonomimi<\/a>, such as catgirls or piggie girls.<\/p>\n

     This is yet another technique in addition to other more chimeric<\/a> lines<\/a> of scientific<\/a> research<\/a>, and another step closer to genetically engineering catgirls for domestic ownership.<\/p>\n
