{"id":18011,"date":"2021-06-03T00:06:21","date_gmt":"2021-06-03T07:06:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/politicalhat.com\/?p=18011"},"modified":"2021-06-03T00:06:21","modified_gmt":"2021-06-03T07:06:21","slug":"quick-takes-euthanasia-killing-the-handicapped-killing-the-mentally-ill-killing-by-an-order-of-magnitude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/2021\/06\/03\/quick-takes-euthanasia-killing-the-handicapped-killing-the-mentally-ill-killing-by-an-order-of-magnitude\/","title":{"rendered":"Quick Takes \u2013 Euthanasia: Killing the Handicapped; Killing the Mentally Ill; Killing by an Order of Magnitude"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Another &#8220;quick takes&#8221; on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The focus this time: The quest for more death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;First, a little mood music:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uB9tO8LdLBI\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-66\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/SkullRx.gif\" alt=\"Death, Rx\" width=\"287\" height=\"269\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The idea that a person can choose to \u201cdie with dignity\u201d kinda presumes that they have the mental capacity and ability to choose\u2026 unless they are in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/canada-poised-to-legalize-euthanasia-for-disabled-and-mentally-ill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canada<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cA bill just passed the House of Commons that \u2014 barring shockingly unforeseen resistance in the Senate, which already voted to loosen the rules \u2014 will radically expand eligibility for euthanasia in Canada, including the following provisions:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0 Reasonably foreseeable death will no longer be required. That opens the door to euthanizing people with disabilities, patients diagnosed with dementia but still competent, as well as the mentally ill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0 After a further time for studying the issue of creating protective guidelines (!!), people whose sole medical problem is mental illness will explicitly qualify for euthanasia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0 There will be no waiting period required between request for death and termination for people whose deaths are reasonably foreseeable \u2014 a very lax term. This means a patient with, say, two years of life expectancy could theoretically be killed immediately upon request.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe expansion will eventually continue to allowing people diagnosed with dementia to order themselves killed in an advance directive when they become mentally incompetent and to pediatric euthanasia of \u2018mature minors\u2019 \u2014 both among the subjects likely to be \u2018studied\u2019 by a committee of \u2018experts\u2019 over the next two years, meaning they are coming next.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Now, you don\u2019t even need to ask if someone who has asked to reserve the choice of when or if they are to die\u2026 you just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/dutch-doctors-can-now-drug-dementia-patients-before-killing-them-to-prevent-resistance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drug \u2018em and kill \u2018em<\/a>!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cA few years ago, Dutch doctor Marinou Arends attended to her dementia patient in a nursing home. Arends wasn\u2019t there to treat her, but to kill her via lethal injection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNow, the Dutch have reacted to the case to create specific rules governing the euthanasia of dementia patients. Of course they now allow drugging to prevent resistance! From the Guardian story:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018Doctors euthanising a patient with severe dementia may slip a sedative into their food or drink if there are concerns they will become \u201cdisturbed, agitated or aggressive\u201d, under a change to the codes of practice in the Netherlands.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAnother factor of the Arends story is worth noting. The patient had asked for euthanasia when she became incompetent, but she wanted to decide when. She never did. So, the rules were changed to govern that circumstance too:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018The new code says that in cases where a patient has advanced dementia, \u201cit is not necessary for the doctor to agree with the patient the time or manner in which euthanasia will be given\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u201c\u2018Kohnstamm said: \u201cDoctors now have less to worry about putting their necks in a noose with euthanasia. They need less fear of justice. Or for the review committee.\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo, we wouldn\u2019t want that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nothing says \u201crare cases where a person is dying and in pain\u201d like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicworldreport.com\/2020\/09\/02\/assisted-suicide-euthanasia-more-than-10-times-higher-than-predicted-in-australian-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ten times as many people dying<\/a> as euthanasia proponents said there\u2019d be.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhile the Australian state of Tasmania is debating a bill that would legalize assisted suicide, the state of Victoria reported more than ten times the anticipated number of deaths from assisted suicide and euthanasia in its first legal year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cVictoria\u2019s Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board reported 124 deaths by assisted suicide and euthanasia since June 19, 2019, when the legalization of the precedure took effect, The Catholic Weekly reported.
