Yet, in the United State, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines are <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/news\/2021-05-unnecessary-mri-exams-symptoms-larger.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">so common and available<\/a>, they can be used even when they aren\u2019t necessary.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cClose to 40 million Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures are performed annually. These MRIs enable doctors to peer deep inside the body, helping them to diagnose ailments or diseases in a non-invasive way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBut the technology may also be exploited, according to new research by Gary Young, a professor of strategic management and healthcare systems. His study shows that doctors are often pressured to prescribe unnecessary MRIs procedures in order to funnel money to hospitals\u2014thereby escalating the costs of healthcare.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2018This isn&#8217;t a gray area,\u2019 says Young, who directs Northeastern&#8217;s Center for Health Policy and Healthcare Research. \u2018This is an area where these patients shouldn&#8217;t be referred for an MRI.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThough MRIs are relatively harmless to the patient, Young notes that the willingness to authorize unnecessary imagings heightens concerns that other types of inappropriate procedures\u2014including surgeries\u2014may be referred to patients inappropriately.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17936\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mri-scan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mri-scan.jpg 512w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mri-scan-300x248.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;As noted, an MRI isn\u2019t some unnecessary surgery or really risky at all.
