     Because that \u201cCapitol Hill Autonomous Zone<\/a>\u201d (CHAZ, renamed \u201cCHOD\u201d) in Seattle was so spiffy, the King County prosecutor wants to let the \u201ccommunity\u201d choose a punishment which doesn\u2019t involve jail time<\/a> or even having to provide restitution for \u201cfirst-time\u201d criminals. And of course<\/em> its based on \u201crestorative justice<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cUnder the \u2018restorative justice\u2019 program, non-violent, first-time felons will face a non-profit community panel to decide how the offender will be held accountable. But Satterberg won\u2019t define what he means by accountability.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018We can send that person instead (of jail) to a community accountability group, who will define what they think accountability means,\u2019 [said King County Prosecutor Dan ] Satterberg \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a Seattle movement to literally abolish jails while justifying violence against cops and the destruction of corporations. Should they get to define what accountability means?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

     As for restitution? \u00a0 Clearly the perpetrators can\u2019t be held accountable or even be considered to have any agency. This is because it\u2019s societies fault and society must pay\u2026 or at least the taxpayers.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201c\u2018Sometimes it can take years before restitution is paid to a victim and the person responsible may repeatedly come back to court when they don\u2019t pay,\u2019 Satterberg told KOMO. \u2018The reality of the situation right now is, victims are not being taken care of. This will help us take care of their immediate needs to a cap of, say, $500.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

     $500 might not cover much for a store hit by a criminal\u2026 even a \u201cfirst time criminal\u201d.<\/p>\n

     It\u2019s not like Seattle or the rest of King County \u2018twould seem cared about the rule of law or protecting the innocent before this.<\/p>\n
