From, \u2018Dying Virtually,\u2019 published in The Conversation:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u201cParrot says she sees 90% of her patients online, visually examining a patient\u2019s symptoms, mobility, affect and breathing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u201c\u2018I can get a great deal of information for how close a patient is to death from a Skype visit,\u2019 Parrot explained. \u2018I don\u2019t feel badly at all that I don\u2019t have a stethoscope on their chest.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u201cAfter the initial visit, whether in person or online, aid-in-dying physicians carefully collate their prognosis with the patient\u2019s prior medical records and lab tests. Some also consult the patient\u2019s primary physician.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDid you catch the last bit there? Some \u2018consult\u2019 the patient\u2019s primary physician. That also means some don\u2019t. And that means some people are assisted in suicide by doctors they have never met in the flesh and who have never examined them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5371\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line.gif 500w, https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/eag_line-300x22.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And the death-dealing doctors certainly won\u2019t stop a little thing like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/united-kingdom-court-allows-slow-motion-euthanasia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">law get in the way<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Euthanasia and assisted suicide are not legal in the U.K. This is a way around that prohibition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>MSP is not terminally ill.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>The court is deciding what is supposedly in his \u201cbest interests\u201d because he is incapacitated and unable to speak for himself.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>He is incapacitated only because the doctors are using drugs to keep him in an artificial coma \u2014 which is not medically necessary for his proper care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>If MSP were awakened and recovered, he would be able to breathe on his own and receive sustenance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Having a stoma can be a hard and emotional adjustment \u2014 I know, because my father went through it. But millions of people live normal and happy lives with stomas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>MSP will be made to die by being kept in a coma without sustenance or respiratory support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintaining the coma is an active means of enabling the refusal of artificial nutrition and hydration and ventilation; hence, it is being implemented as part of the process to allow the killing of this patient by dehydration or by suppression of respiration as the patient weakens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>In other words, this isn\u2019t really about refusing medical treatment. That\u2019s a facade. Indeed, keeping the patient unconscious is not a medical treatment but rather a means of facilitating slow-motion euthanasia known as \u201cterminal sedation.\u201d Indeed, Dutch doctors who are queasy about lethally injecting patients often resort to terminal sedation as a means of causing death.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Terminal sedation should not be confused with \u201cpalliative sedation,\u201d a legitimate end-of-life medical treatment that keeps patients with intractable pain who are close to death comfortable.
