That\u2019s what good carney pitchmen do to sell their wares.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSo do assisted-suicide advocates. When pitching legalization, they solemnly promise that they have written, oh so \u2018protective guidelines\u2019 into the legislation to prevent abuse.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThen, once the law is safely in place, advocates grouse that the guidelines they touted are \u2018obstacles\u2019 or \u2018barriers\u2019 that unjustly prevent suffering people from accessing assisted suicide. Eventually, political agitation begins to amend the law to make things, shall we say, more flexible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe see this slippery slope process in action in Washington.
