     Despite the strict \u201cseparation of church and state\u201d in public schools, it increasingly feels like there is no \u201cseparation of mosque and state\u201d. We\u2019ve already seen examples of schools in America teach about the hajj<\/a>, extolling jihadis<\/a>, and even write the Shahada<\/a>, the profession of the Islamic faith<\/a>. Now, we are seeing Sharia law starting to be enforce: A public school teacher threatened a girl for not wearing a hijab<\/a>.<\/p>\n

     In the student\u2019s own words<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cToday I was happy. I had completely stopped covering my hair and was speaking confidently with other people. I was just so happy, I wanted to go home and dream about it all night.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn math class, when the bell rang to switch, a teacher asked me about my hijab. I told her that I just took it off and it was no big deal. She told me that it was important to uphold culture, she then asked if my parents knew what I was doing. Being the idiot I am, I said no and asked if she would tell. To my absolute horror, she said yes.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy whole world stopped. I know what would happen if she said a word about this to my mother. I asked her why she would do that and she said:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019because it\u2019s your culture! And you are an exception to be able to wear the hijab as a uniform, so don\u2019t just take advantage of that.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI put my head down for a while, holding back tears. Before I knew it, it was time for the last class. In the hallway I just walked mindlessly to my next class. Then the same teacher who wanted to out me had apparently told the science teacher about what I had done. Both of them told me to come over and the science teacher asked what\u2019s wrong. I didn\u2019t say anything, and at that moment she hugged me and I just started sobbing.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe led me to the empty classroom and sat me down along with the other teacher. They gave me a whole lecture about why I shouldn\u2019t have taken it off and my parents are just protecting me, And kept bringing up boyfriends even though I don\u2019t want one. After the talk I just put my hijab back on and left, it was time to go home now.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the beginning of the day I was full of hope, and at the end I just felt crushed. I was lucky that they didn\u2019t tell my mom, but they\u2019re watching me from now on so I just can\u2019t do what I have been doing anymore. I don\u2019t know what to do now, my double life has ended before I knew it, and I lost a good chunk of the confidence I had earlier.<\/p>\n

\u201cthis happened in a regular public school in Massachusetts U.S. on December 18, 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpdate #1 : So when this incident happened, two of my close friends were witnesses and told some of the people I trust, so I know that I at least have backup. I feel a lot better today, I\u2019ll report this to the principal when I get a chance, I\u2019ll keep you updated.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpdate #2: I spoke with the principal. He said that it\u2019s my choice how I dress as long as it abides by the dress code. He said if those teachers want to talk to my mother, they can talk to him about it, so I\u2019m free to take off my hijab. I\u2019m going to try to take it off again, I\u2019ll update again if she tries anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

     So many who claim to have \u201cliberal values\u201d and demand that government not entangle itself with religion in actuality wish the government to do just that, at least to the degree necessary to attack some religions over others.<\/p>\n
