{"id":162,"date":"2012-10-10T17:54:04","date_gmt":"2012-10-11T01:54:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/politicalhat.com\/?p=162"},"modified":"2012-10-10T17:54:04","modified_gmt":"2012-10-11T01:54:04","slug":"a-look-back-on-vice-presidential-debates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/2012\/10\/10\/a-look-back-on-vice-presidential-debates\/","title":{"rendered":"A Look Back on Vice-Presidential Debates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Thursday, Oct. 11th marks the first, and only, Vice-Presidential debate for the 2012 election.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;While many are concerning themselves with the upcoming debate\/battle (20 Million Quatloos on the young one!), let us take a gander at the past eight Vice-Presidential debates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The first Vice-Presidential debate was the 1976 contest between Minnesota Senator Walter Mondale and Kansas Senator Bob Dole, where Dole (in)famously referred to WWI, WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, as &#8220;Demcorat Wars.&#8221;\u00a0 The entire debate is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.c-spanvideo.org\/program\/75693-1\" target=\"_blank\">available online<\/a>, though, alas, it is not embeddable.\u00a0 1980 saw no Vice-Presidential debate, though in 1984 George H. W. Bush did have a chance to debate Rep. Bentsen replied to Sen. Quayle&#8217;s comment, about being the same age as JFK, by saying: &#8220;Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy, I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you&#8217;re no Jack Kennedy.&#8221;\u00a0 Unlike Dole in &#8217;76, the Bush\/Quayle went on to curb stomp Dukakis\/Bentsen in a landslide.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<object id='cspan-video-player' classid='clsid:d27cdb6eae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000' codebase='http:\/\/fpdownload.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0' align='middle' height='500' width='410'><param name='allowScriptAccess' value='true'\/><param name='movie' value='http:\/\/www.c-spanvideo.org\/videoLibrary\/assets\/swf\/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=4127-1'\/><param name='quality' value='high'\/><param name='bgcolor' value='#ffffff'\/><param name='allowFullScreen' value='true'\/><param name='flashvars' value='system=http:\/\/www.c-spanvideo.org\/common\/services\/flashXml.php?programid=133543&#038;style=full'\/><embed name='cspan-video-player' src='http:\/\/www.c-spanvideo.org\/videoLibrary\/assets\/swf\/CSPANPlayer.swf?pid=4127-1' allowScriptAccess='always' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' allowFullScreen='true' type='application\/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http:\/\/www.macromedia.com\/go\/getflashplayer' flashvars='system=http:\/\/www.c-spanvideo.org\/common\/services\/flashXml.php?programid=133543&#038;style=full' align='middle' height='500' width='410'><\/embed><\/object>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The 1992 debate was a three-way affair that included not only incumbent Dan Quayle, but Tennesee Senator Al Gore and retired Vice Admiral James Stockdale, who ran as Ross Perot&#8217;s running-mate and (in)famously said &#8220;Who am I? Why am I here?
