{"id":14736,"date":"2018-07-17T00:51:22","date_gmt":"2018-07-17T07:51:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/politicalhat.com\/?p=14736"},"modified":"2018-07-17T00:51:22","modified_gmt":"2018-07-17T07:51:22","slug":"ap-exam-sends-thousands-of-years-of-history-down-the-memory-hole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/2018\/07\/17\/ap-exam-sends-thousands-of-years-of-history-down-the-memory-hole\/","title":{"rendered":"AP Exam Sends Thousands of Years of History Down the Memory Hole"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The College Board, which provides the Advanced Placement Exams that allow high schoolers to earn college credit by successfully passing an exam, has decided to <a href=\"https:\/\/apcentral.collegeboard.org\/courses\/ap-world-history\/course\/2019-20-changes?course=ap-world-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">axe over seven thousand years of history<\/a> and only testing on history since 1450.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;In response to valuable feedback from AP teachers, we\u2019re making changes to AP World History in 2019-20 that better align it with the scope of content that most colleges and universities cover in a single course.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;These changes will help give students more time during the school year to develop understanding through sustained focus on key concepts and practice of essential skills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;What\u2019s changing, and why?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Beginning in the 2019-20 school year:<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<blockquote>\n<li>The AP World History Exam will assess content only from c. 1450 through the present (Periods 4\u20136).<\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<li>The exam format and rubrics will stay the same, in alignment with the other two AP history exams.<\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<li>Some content (i.e., world religions) from Periods 1\u20133 will be reviewed in Periods 4\u20136.<\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<li>Some content clarifications will be provided.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Rather than cover vital history that led to the creation of modern society, they would <a href=\"https:\/\/pre-ap.collegeboard.org\/courses\/world-history-and-geography\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">relegate all history before 1450<\/a> to a <em>pre-AP<\/em> class where schools <em>could<\/em> teach about ancient civilizations that are foundational for contemporary society. The rise of Christianity and the intellectual\/cultural influence of Rome and ancient Greece, as well as the medieval developments after them, are vital to understanding how our own civilization came to be as well as providing a greater intellectual depth\u2014and philosophical counterbalance\u2014to more modern strains of thought.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Indeed, those who want to control the future must also control the past, and it&#8217;s easy to control the past when you toss it into \u00fee olde Memory Hole.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14737\" src=\"https:\/\/impeachreno.org\/politicalhat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Memory-Hole-1984.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"90\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Unsurprisingly, over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/collegeboard-collegeboard-don-t-cut-periods-1-3-in-ap-world-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10,000 have signed a petition<\/a> to bring back testing of history before 1450.
